Monitoring of disturbances caused by the
1004 departemental road roadworks
Client
The road between Strasbourg and Wasselonne, about 20 kilometers long, is very busy and congested at peak times (18,000 to 24,000 vehicles per day on average). Until now, this has been the only route between these cities with no alternative rail line. The “TSPO” project was launched in the 2010s in order to create priority lanes for buses. For this project, the departemental road 1004 has to be reorganised and traffic diverted during the works.
The planned operations consist of upgrading the existing roadway, without any overall widening and mainly in an urban environment.
Challenges
Within Wasselonne, these roadworks carried out as part of the TSPO project have an impact on the construction site’s environment, located in the heart of the town.
In addition, to ease the flow of traffic during the works, the local authority has decided to divert the traffic via an impasse located in a residence, transformed into a traffic lane for this occasion.
A the end of the works, the municipality of Wasselonne wants to decide whether or not to keep this new road depending on the level of inconvenience caused by the new traffic.
The European Community of Alsace has to measure the disturbances generated by these changes in traffic flow such as :
- Noise level,
- Number of vehicles,
- Traffic source (car / bicycle / truck / motorbike),
- Average speed.
Start of project: April 2022
UBY solution
We deployed different types of sensors on the worksite (and in the area affected by these disturbances) including:
- Noise sensor
- Vibration sensor
- Optical sensor (counting vehicles, lorries and bicycles)
- and air quality sensor
Via our app, the client can monitor the collected measures in real time, be alerted in the event of thresholds being exceeded and analyse the evolution of measures over a period.
Benefits
The measurements collected by UBY sensors showed that the worksite complied with all the environmental regulations, in terms of sound, vibrations and air quality. In addition, the noise and traffic measurements carried out on Rue Berlioz have identified an increase in traffic but without any negative impact on the noise level. Residents located around the new road have not reported any additional inconvenience and they are in favour of making the diversion papermanent.
